Cherry Trees honouring Martha Cartmell - in Centennial Park (images by Rev. Seiichi Ariga)
The Martha Cartmell memorial Cherry Trees are blossoming in Centennial Park in Dundas for the first time.
They are the gift of alumni of the High School for Girls founded by Miss Cartmell in 1884 in Tokyo - the first school for girls in Japan.

Miss Cartmell was the first woman to go overseas under the sponsorship of the Woman's Missionary Society of the Methodist Church in Canada. The ceremonial planting took place last June.

In later years, two other missionaries went out from St. Paul's Dundas to Japan - Margaret Keagey and Violet Saunders.
